Journal Entry: A Year Without You

It’s been a year, and though life keeps moving, there’s not a day where your sweet little face doesn’t pop into my head. You were the protector of our family, always watching, always ready. You might have looked like a teddy bear, but your bravery and strength were undeniable.

I still picture you, nose to the sky, breathing in the breeze like you were meditating. You seemed so at peace, and you appreciated nature the same way I did. Together, we found that calm, as if we shared a quiet understanding of the world around us.

You often had to sacrifice for the more needy energy in our home, and I always felt bad about that. But you handled it with grace, never letting on. People thought you only loved me, but they didn’t see how much you gave to everyone. Your love was quiet, but it was everywhere.

You played with the other pups like a gentle wrestler, always kind, but still full of energy. You never lost that spirit, even at the end. You took care of us all, always putting your own pain aside, never letting on how little time you had left. You hid it so well.

I feel so lucky to have known you. You could move like a mountain goat, then rest like you had all the time in the world. Always by my side, watching the door, ready to protect. You were my constant, my shadow, my peace.

I miss you, little man. Every day.

Forever your mum,

Heidi
